The Northern Senators Forum has congratulated the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, on his 70th birthday, describing his life as one dedicated to nation building, peace and unity.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chairman of the Forum, Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, the Senators said the milestone celebrated a life of service, sacrifice and leadership.
“His Eminence’s distinguished journey from the Nigerian Army, where he rose to the rank of Brigadier-General, through peacekeeping operations in Africa, military command and diplomatic service, is a testament to his courage, discipline and commitment to duty,” the statement said.
It noted that his military career prepared him for the higher responsibility of providing traditional and spiritual leadership to millions of Nigerians following his emergence as the 20th Sultan of Sokoto in 2006.
The Forum said that in the past two decades, the Sultan had distinguished himself as a voice for peace, tolerance, interfaith dialogue and national cohesion.
“His consistent engagement with leaders across religious and ethnic divides, his advocacy for peaceful coexistence and his commitment to the unity of Nigeria have earned him immense respect at home and abroad,” it added.
The Senators said that at a time the country needed voices of wisdom, moderation and reconciliation, the Sultan’s leadership remained invaluable.
The Forum prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the Sultan sound health, wisdom, strength and many more years of purposeful service to the Sultanate, the Muslim Ummah, the North and Nigeria.
“Happy 70th Birthday, Your Eminence. May your years ahead be filled with greater accomplishments, peace and divine blessings,” the statement concluded.
