The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu has outperformed all of Nigeria’s democratically elected presidents in their first terms in office.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, Morka defended the administration’s performance, saying the records “speak for themselves.”

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has outperformed any president in his first term. He has outperformed any democratically elected president in this country in their terms,” he said.“The indicators are res ipsa loquitur, as we say in law; they speak for themselves. This president inherited an economy that was in a complete mess.”

Morka noted that Nigeria’s economy was in a difficult state when Tinubu assumed office in 2023, but added that policies introduced by the APC-led government had brought about a turnaround.He described former President Muhammadu Buhari as a “stopgap president” who “really came to keep the country from tipping over the precipice, from 16 years of horrific maladministration by the PDP government.”

“President Buhari served his term and did his job to hold the country steady for President Tinubu to take over,” Morka said.He further stated that Tinubu’s performance had reached a level where even some of his critics were now acknowledging the administration’s efforts, adding that Nigeria had “come out of the woods” on a macroeconomic level under the current policies.

Since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999, the country has been under civilian rule for 27 years across five presidents. Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan, all elected on the Peoples Democratic Party platform, governed for a combined 16 years. Buhari and Tinubu, both elected on the APC platform, have so far spent a combined 11 years in office.
