…It is a ridiculous activity – NDC
As major political parties in Anambra State have pulled out of Saturday’s state local government poll, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sylvester Ezeokenwa, has described the decision as “playing the ostrich,”.
However, in a swift reaction, Ikem Uzoezie, the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) state chairman, told BusinessDay on Wednesday in Awka that the party was not interested in the activity of APGA and its shananeger.
Ezeokenwa said the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) never fielded candidates for the exercise, even as the trio had announced that they would pull out of the contest
Ezeokenwa stressed that the only political party other than APGA that is in the race is the Young Democratic Party (YPP), which fielded one chairmanship candidate in Anambra East Local Government Area and no other candidate.
“If you say that you are pulling out of the race, that means that you are in the race. But to say that you are pulling out of the contest when, in the actual sense, you did not field candidates is more of playing the ostrich.

“Go to the headquarters of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) and find out. You will discover that they never fielded candidates for this Saturday’s election. The only party that has a candidate for the election is the YPP, which has one chairmanship candidate in Anambra East and no councillorship candidates,” he said.
But Uzoezie emphasised that NDC was not a party to such ridiculous activity, adding, “We don’t want to subject ourselves to childish play; we focus ourselves on state and other issues.
“We are not really interested in the activities of APGA and their shananeger, so there is no point in subjecting ourselves to such ridiculous activities.
“It happened two years ago, or so, they did their so-called election. Why do we want to subject ourselves to such public ridicule in the name of contesting election when you know that the party and the state government will write the results and declare their winners in the government house,” he affirmed.
Ezeokenwa maintained that the other political parties did not conduct primary elections and, therefore, were not in the race.
“So, people should not see their respective comments about the election to mean that they were initially in the race. You can confirm that from ANSIEC, which is the umpire for this election,” he stated.
