Following the cancellation of two scheduled flights, numerous passengers travelling on Delta Air Lines’ Lagos-Atlanta route have been stranded at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos.
The airline first cancelled Flight DL9895, which was scheduled to depart Lagos for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
Affected travellers said they were subsequently rebooked on another flight scheduled for August 25, but claimed the rescheduled service was also cancelled.
In a notification sent to passengers, Delta attributed the second cancellation to crew availability constraints.
The airline said: “We are sorry. Your flight DL9895 from Lagos, LOS, to Atlanta, ATL, was cancelled due to an issue that limited crew availability.”
The repeated cancellations have left many passengers sad, with several expressing frustration over the disruption to their travel plans.
Meanwhile, the airline told Vanguard that while flight DL55 on August 23 was cancelled, the flight on August 25 departed behind schedule.
Station Manager, Delta Air Lines, Nigeria, Salami Omeiza, in a chat, said: “Delta flight DL55 on August 23 was cancelled due to operational reasons, while the flight on August 25 departed behind schedule as technicians resolved a maintenance issue with the aircraft. Our teams are working urgently to assist affected customers and re-accommodate them on the next available flights.
“Delta regrets the inconvenience this disruption has caused and appreciates the patience and understanding of our customers. The safety and well-being of our customers and crew remain our highest priority.
We are providing affected customers with the necessary support and will share further updates as they become available.”
