At least five people have reportedly sustained serious injuries following a clash involving some Hausa and Yoruba residents in Papalanto, Ogun State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning along the Papalanto-Itori-Abeokuta Road after an argument between a Yoruba man and a Hausa resident reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation.
According to eyewitnesses, the situation became violent after the Yoruba man allegedly attacked the Hausa resident with a cutlass.
The incident reportedly attracted a large number of Hausa residents to the area, while some Yoruba residents also mobilised in support of their fellow resident.

An eyewitness, Taofik Ishola, said he was near the road leading to Itori-Abeokuta when he noticed the confrontation.
“I was just by the side of the road leading to Itori-Abeokuta when I saw a serious fight break out. Not long after, hundreds of Hausa came from nowhere,” Ishola said.
Another Hausa resident who witnessed the incident said the situation escalated rapidly following the alleged cutlass attack.
“We no know say the matter go reach this level. Na when we see say our person don dey attacked with cutlass, people begin gather. Before we know wetin dey happen, everywhere don turn fight,” he said.
A second Hausa resident said the confrontation spread quickly as people from different locations reportedly joined the fray.
“The whole thing happen very fast. People just dey come from different places. We were trying to protect our own person, but the situation become serious and police later come to intervene,” he said.
A Yoruba resident who witnessed the incident said what began as a disagreement between two individuals later escalated into a broader confrontation involving residents from both communities.
“It started as a small disagreement between two people, but everything changed when the cutlass was used. Before we knew what was happening, people from both sides had gathered and the whole place became chaotic,” he said.
At least five people, including Yoruba residents, were reportedly seriously injured during the confrontation.
The injured victims were subsequently taken to a hospital for medical attention.
Policemen from the Ifo Police Division later arrived at the scene and reportedly intervened to prevent the violence from escalating further.
The immediate cause of the initial disagreement between the two individuals could not be independently established as of the time of filing this report.
The Ogun State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of press time.
