The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Transportation, Daura (FUTD), Hon. Wahab Akanni Owokoniran, has pledged to maintain regular engagement with the university management to obtain first-hand information on its needs and accelerate its development.

Owokoniran made this commitment on Monday, August 24, 2026, when he led members of the university management on an inspection of ongoing projects secured for the institution by the Governing Council.

According to a statement signed by the Chief Information and Communications Officer, Umar Usman, the Pro-Chancellor said regular interaction with the management was necessary to enable the Council to better understand the challenges facing the institution and respond appropriately to its
developmental needs.

“Before embarking on the inspection, I decided to first interact with the University Management, and this interaction is the second we are having in 2026.

“I want to assure you that I will, from time to time, be interacting with you with the aim of getting first-hand information on the needs of the University,” Owokoniran said.

He urged the management to continue supporting the Governing Council in the discharge of its mandate, assuring members that they should feel free to engage with him on issues concerning
the progress of the university. The Council chairman said the Governing Council had secured several projects aimed at addressing critical infrastructure needs of the young institution.

Among the projects, he listed the Senate Building, Centre for Railway Signal and Communication, student hostel accommodation, renovation of the Great Green Wall building and its conversion to the Centre of Transpo-Entrepreneurship.

Others include the construction of workshops, School of General Studies, blocks of classrooms and faculty buildings.

Owokoniran said his decision to personally inspect the projects was part of efforts to ensure that the works were executed according to approved standards and contractual specifications.

“This inspection is to see for ourselves the development made so far on the execution of these projects as well as ensure quality, especially being the University one of the newly established universities with critical needs for the utilisation of many generations to come,”
he said.

Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Hon. Prof. Umar Adam Katsayal, mni, welcomed the Pro-Chancellor and expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as evidence of Owokoniran’s commitment to the development of the university.
“This, no doubt, showed the importance the Chairman attached to the University and its development.

“This is the second meeting that the Pro-Chancellor is having with University Management within this year. It is our hope that the same tempo will be sustained by Hon. Owokoniran,” the Vice-Chancellor said.

The Pro-Chancellor and members of management were subsequently taken round the project sites by the Director of Physical Planning and Municipal Services, Arch. Usman Mukhtar Wali.

Wali briefed the team on the various projects and their stages of completion, while Owokoniran made observations on areas requiring improvement.

He also interacted with the contractors and consultants handling the projects, stressing the importance of quality, adherence to specifications and strict compliance with the terms and conditions of the contracts.
