Will Omar Marmoush’s loan move boost Tottenham’s attack?

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a loan deal to sign Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush, with a £60 million buyout clause next summer.

The Egypt international is set to undergo a medical in the coming days and will become the second City forward to join Spurs this week after Brazilian winger Savinho completed his £75 million move to north London.

Marmoush’s arrival further underlines the scale of Roberto De Zerbi’s rebuilding project as Tottenham look to recover from a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign.

Marmoush adds attacking firepower

The 27-year-old brings pace, versatility and proven goalscoring ability to a Tottenham attack that needs greater depth.

Marmoush can operate through the middle or from wide positions, giving De Zerbi another option in the final third and allowing the Italian greater flexibility in how he sets up his attack.

His arrival is particularly significant given Dominic Solanke’s injury problems over the past 18 months, while Richarlison is entering the final year of his Tottenham contract.

Marmoush could therefore provide competition and cover across the frontline while also offering a different profile to the club’s existing attacking options.

The Egyptian joined Manchester City from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59 million in January but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter with Erling Haaland occupying the central striking role.

He made 62 appearances in all competitions for City, scoring 16 goals.

Marmoush was a second-half substitute in City’s 3-0 Community Shield defeat by Arsenal and remained on the bench during their Premier League opener against Bournemouth, which City won 2-1.

Another major investment

Tottenham’s move for Marmoush takes their summer spending beyond £312 million and reinforces the club’s determination to reshape the squad under De Zerbi.

Spurs have already signed Savinho from City for an initial £75 million, while Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and Jan Paul van Hecke have also arrived.

Defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, along with goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, have joined on free transfers.

The decision to take Marmoush on loan with a £60 million buy-out clause next summer also allows Tottenham to spread the financial commitment while securing a player they believe can make an immediate impact.

Marmoush gives De Zerbi more options

For De Zerbi, the Egyptian’s versatility could prove particularly valuable as Tottenham attempt to build a more dynamic attack.

Marmoush’s ability to play centrally or from the flanks should complement Savinho’s arrival and give Spurs greater pace and creativity in transition.

After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, Tottenham need their significant investment to translate into results.

Marmoush will now be expected to play a major role in that turnaround, with his goals, movement and versatility potentially providing the attacking spark De Zerbi needs to push Spurs back towards the upper reaches of the Premier League.
