The All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Ondo Central, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, SAN, has said the reforms being implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration are long-term processes aimed at building enduring systems rather than providing quick fixes.

Speaking in Akure, Adegbonmire said the President was working to address the country’s challenges and place Nigeria on the path to sustainable development.

“Things are being done in phases, but the President is building systems and institutions that will endure. For that reason, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves commendation for his courage and commitment,” he said.

Adegbonmire disagreed with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s position on the removal of fuel subsidy, saying some of his comments suggested a misunderstanding of basic economic principles.

He noted that international financial institutions, including the World Bank, had acknowledged aspects of the economic reforms being implemented by the Federal Government.

The senator said economic recovery required patience and proper sequencing, stressing that microeconomic fundamentals must stabilise before the effects could be fully reflected in macroeconomic indicators.

He highlighted investments by the Tinubu administration in infrastructure and human capital, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, renewed attention to rail and airport infrastructure, and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).

Adegbonmire also commended efforts to improve foreign exchange stability, saying greater predictability would enable manufacturers and importers to plan more effectively.

He pointed to the reported growth in Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves as an indication of improved investor confidence.

Adegbonmire lists constituency projects

On his record in Ondo Central, Adegbonmire said his interventions in the 10th National Assembly over the past three years had focused on education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth development and empowerment.

As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, he said he had played key roles in issues concerning justice and the rule of law.

He added that he chairs the Ad-hoc Committee on the Review of the Electoral Act and serves on the Constitutional Review Committee.

Adegbonmire listed constituency projects facilitated by his office to include educational interventions worth more than ₦800 million at Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure; construction of modern classrooms at St. Helens Unity Secondary School, Ondo, and Owobamibo, Ofosu, in Idanre Local Government Area.

He also mentioned the renovation of classrooms at St. Thomas and St. Andrew Primary School in Akure South.

Under his Mega Empowerment Programme, he said thousands of beneficiaries across Ondo Central had received materials and financial support.

In the health sector, the senator said Basic Health Centres at Ipogun in Ifedore Local Government Area and Ifelodun, FUTA North, Akure, had been renovated and equipped.

He added that a 20-bed maternity centre would be constructed along Oda Town, while health centres in Igbara-Oke and Ijare had been identified for rehabilitation.

Adegbonmire further said he had supported students through scholarships and assisted individuals to establish businesses.

Akinyelure’s road allegation

Reacting to allegations by former Senator Pius Ayo Akinyelure concerning the Alade-Idanre-Owena Road, Adegbonmire described the claims as “pure mischief.”

He explained that the road was awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works during Akinyelure’s tenure and was not a constituency project.

“I called him personally to challenge him. He later sent a message that he was not referring to me personally,” Adegbonmire said, challenging Akinyelure to publicly clarify his position.

He also questioned why the issue was being raised now, saying: “People should ask where he has been since 2024 and 2025. Why is he making these insinuations now, when he wants to contest an election?”

Adegbonmire reaffirmed his commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda and urged Nigerians, particularly residents of Ondo Central, to support President Tinubu, himself and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections to ensure continuity in the implementation of reforms and projects.
