Bedada Care Foundation, a non-governmental organisation known for championing the cause of women and justice, in collaborations with its partners, Monday,  expressed concern over government failure to prosecute soldiers who allegedly killed 11 innocent protesting women in Lamurde local government area of Adamawa state, 8 months after the incident. 

Speaking at a press conference in Yola,  read  by Mrs. Elizabeth Jatau, the foundation  called for prompt, independent  and transparent prosecution of all the  soldiers involved.  

She noted that the unarmed women  gathered peacefuly in Lamurde local Government to protest delayed deployment of soldiers to protect their community fromt  threats of communal attacks. 

She said the women carried leaves not weapon and sangs songs of peace not provocation, only to be shot allegedly by soldiers alledgedly  from the 23rd  Brigade Yola. 

 The foundation also called  for immidiate provision of medical care to surviving victims still suffering from injuries  sustained as a result of the shooting, and livelyhood restitution  for survivors who cannot longer farm, trade  or work. 

According to them, although, Adamawa state government  intervened by settling medical bills of the victims, especially those admitted  at the specialist Hospital Yola, and Madibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital  (MAUTH), many of  the assistance came  from private individuals. 

Jatau, further commended Adamawa state government for taking step to stabilise the situation in through its peace commission where youths, traditional rulers, religious leaders and community representation were engaged  to de-escalate tensions. 

She further reiterated  the commitments of the foundation to stand with the victims.
