THE Deputy Governor of Edo, Dennis Idahosa, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Gov. Monday Okpebholo-led administration to accelerating development across the state.
Idahosa gave the assurance in a goodwill message on Wednesday in Benin, while congratulating residents of the state on the 35th year anniversary of the creation of Edo.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Edo and Delta were created on Aug. 27, 1991, from then Bendel by then Military President, Ibrahim Babangida.
The deputy governor described the creation of the state as a defining moment in the history of its people, noting that the past 35 years had witnessed remarkable contributions by Edo people to Nigeria and the global community.
According to him, Edo people have distinguished themselves in education, agriculture, commerce, politics, sports, entertainment and various professions.
He acknowledged the contributions of successive administrations to the development of the state, saying their efforts had provided the foundation for the present administration to build upon.
He also said that the Okpebholo-led administration was accelerating development through the SHINE Agenda, with focus on infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, human capital development and economic growth.
Idahosa said the government was reconstructing and rehabilitating major roads, while strengthening the healthcare and education sectors and improving the state’s security architecture.
He added that the administration was committed to attracting investments, creating jobs and opportunities for youths, restoring confidence in government and ensuring that development reached communities across the state.
”The work may be enormous, but our determination is greater,” he said, stressing that the government remained focused on building an Edo where businesses could thrive and residents prosper.
He identified the people as the greatest asset of the state and called for greater unity and collective commitment to its development.
The deputy governor urged Edo people to use the anniversary to reflect on the achievements and challenges of the past 35 years and renew their commitment to building a better future.
”On behalf of my family and the government of the state, I congratulate every Edo son and daughter on this auspicious occasion.
”May the next 35 years bring greater prosperity, peace, security, development and opportunities to our people,” he said.
Idahosa wished residents of the state a happy 35th anniversary and prayed for continued peace, progress and prosperity in the state and Nigeria.(NAN)
