HUAWEI, a Chinese technology company, says it has completed a multi-year global patent cross-licensing agreement with an American firm, HP Inc.
Alan Fan, Chief Intellectual Property Officer at Huawei, said this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the agreement covered the firm’s Wi Fi related patents.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that patent cross-licensing is an arrangement in which companies grant each other rights to use specified patented technologies, subject to agreed terms.
Fan said the agreement demonstrated Huawei’s commitment to independent innovation in frontier Information and Communications Technology (ICT) fields.
He said patent licensing enabled Huawei to share its innovations with the industry and provide advanced technological experiences to consumers worldwide.
“Through patent licensing, we share our innovations with the industry, delivering advanced technological experiences to consumers worldwide, particularly in standardised technologies,” Fan said.
He said the figure demonstrated the widespread application of Huawei’s patented technologies in consumer electronic devices globally.
Fan noted that the agreement with HP Inc, a technology company, further demonstrated Huawei’s technological capabilities and its approach to sharing innovations through patent licensing.
He said Huawei would continue to invest in independent innovation while making its patented technologies available to industry players through licensing arrangements.
NAN reports that Huawei had signed more than 260 patent licensing agreements with major ICT manufacturers across the United States, Europe, Japan, South Korea and other key markets.
The company also added 34 new patent licensing agreements in 2025, reflecting the continued adoption of its technologies across major global markets.
Huawei’s patent licensing revenue reached approximately 630 million dollars in 2024, highlighting the commercial value of its intellectual property portfolio.
