Atlético Madrid have ruled out the possibility of Julián Álvarez joining Barcelona, insisting that the club will not negotiate the Argentine forward’s transfer to the Catalan giants.
The decision was unanimously backed by Atlético’s Board of Directors, who expressed their full support for the club’s stance on Barcelona’s interest in the player.
In an official statement on Thursday, Atlético said they remain open to transfer negotiations but stressed that such discussions must be conducted in an ethical and professional manner, with respect between clubs.
The Madrid club, however, claimed that Barcelona had failed to meet those requirements.
“FC Barcelona have not met these requirements and, as a result, there have been no negotiations, nor will there be any negotiations with them regarding the transfer of Julián Álvarez,” Atlético said.
The club added that its board members were aware of the situation and fully supported the position previously communicated by Atlético.
Atlético also expressed confidence that Álvarez would understand the decision and remain focused on helping the club achieve its objectives.
The Argentina international joined Atlético from Manchester City and has become an important player for the Spanish club since his arrival.
Atlético highlighted his contribution during the two seasons he has spent at the club, expressing their expectation that he will continue to work for the team’s success.
Barcelona’s reported interest had raised speculation over a possible move for the forward, but Atlético’s latest statement makes clear that the club has no intention of opening negotiations with the Catalan side.
For now, Álvarez remains an Atlético Madrid player, with the club firmly closing the door on a potential transfer to Barcelona.
