A woman has cried out over the alleged demolition of a residential building in Abuja, accusing authorities of giving residents only 15 minutes to vacate the property before the structure was pulled down.

In a video circulating online, the woman expressed frustration over the demolition, questioning the decision to expand the road in an area she claimed was not heavily used, while other pressing issues remained unattended.

According to her, residents were initially given a 21-day notice to vacate the building. However, she alleged that less than five days later, officials arrived and ordered occupants to leave within 15 minutes, threatening to demolish the structure if they failed to comply.

She further claimed that the demolition began while some residents were still inside the building and had not finished removing their belongings.

“You literally just hit the wall while people were still inside. Some of us were not even able to pack up everything that we had to pack up,” she said.

The woman also questioned why the authorities allegedly failed to verify whether everyone had vacated the premises before commencing demolition.

She expressed concern about the plight of affected residents, particularly those who may struggle to secure alternative accommodation in Abuja.

“How did you do this without having a backup plan?” she asked, adding that house hunting in the Federal Capital Territory can take months, especially for people searching for affordable accommodation.

The woman called for greater consideration for residents affected by demolitions, arguing that authorities should provide adequate notice and, where necessary, temporary accommodation or support to prevent people from suddenly becoming homeless.

The allegations have sparked reactions online, with calls for clarification on the circumstances surrounding the demolition, the notice reportedly issued to residents and whether proper procedures were followed.
