Soldiers rescue two kidnapped persons in Plateau

Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have rescued two kidnapped persons during separate operations in Bassa and Kanam Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

The Media Information Officer of the joint task force, Chinonso Oteh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Mr Oteh, a captain, said the operations were conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday as part of efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of movement and restore peace across the state.

According to him, troops of Sector 3 deployed in Bassa LGA commenced a search-and-rescue operation at about 9 a.m. on Tuesday, following credible information about the abduction of a man identified as Ndubuisi Onuigbo.

He said the troops subsequently located and rescued the man.

“Similarly, in the early hours of Wednesday, August 26, 2026, troops of Sector 2 of Operation Enduring Peace, deployed at Kukawa Village in Kanam Local Government Area, during a fighting patrol, encountered suspected terrorist elements along the patrol route,” Mr Oteh said.

He said the troops pursued the suspects, forcing them to abandon a kidnapped victim, identified as Sambo Abdullahi.

Mr Oteh said the rescued victims had been debriefed and reunited with their families.

He added that the General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander of OPEP, Maxwell Dangana, commended the troops for their professionalism and decisive action.

Mr Dangana, a major general, also appealed to residents to remain calm and support security agencies by providing useful information to help them effectively combat criminal activities in the state.

The latest operations come amid sustained security challenges in parts of Plateau State, where security agencies have intensified patrols and other operations to curb kidnapping and other criminal activities.
