THE Lagos State Chapter of Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, has called for stronger collaboration between the media and the acting community to promote Nigerian talent, improve actors’ welfare and advance the country’s creative industry.
The call was made on Monday, August 24, 2026, when the guild’s Executive Committee (EXCO), led by its Chairman, Funmilayo Ikubuwaye Mary Edward, paid a courtesy visit and embarked on a media tour of Citizen Voice 97.1 FM in Lagos.
The visit formed part of the activities marking the International Actors Day as well as strengthening the relationship between actors and the media and highlighting the contributions of Nigerian actors to culture, entertainment and national development.
The other members of the delegation included Oyika Emmanuel, Director of Guild Services, and Prince Tunde Shado, Financial Secretary.
The delegation was received by the management and on-air team of Citizen Voice 97.1 FM, led by Segun Adeniyi and Godwin Asuquo.
The discussions during the visit focused on opportunities for collaboration in content development, talent discovery and showcase, advocacy for improved welfare for actors, and the promotion of the guild’s initiatives marking International Actors Day.
Speaking during the visit, Edward commended Citizen Voice 97.1 FM for its commitment to giving voice to members of the public and providing the platforms for creative professionals.
She said that actors were not only entertainers, but also storytellers and contributors to nation-building.
“As actors, we are storytellers and nation builders. This courtesy visit is to strengthen our relationship with the media and to use platforms like Citizen Voice 97.1 FM to engage the public, mentor upcoming talents, and celebrate the art of acting,” she said.
The guild’s Director of Communications, Amb. Cornelius Udofia, described the media tour as a strategic part of the International Actors Day activities.
He said that the media had an important role to play in shaping public perception of the acting profession and promoting the work of Nigerian actors.
“The media remains a critical partner in projecting the image of the Nigerian actor. Through this tour, we are taking our message directly to the people — that acting is a profession, a business, and a tool for social impact,” Udofia said.
He thanked the management of Citizen Voice 97.1 FM for receiving the delegation and supporting the initiative.
A major highlight of the visit was a live studio session during which members of the guild’s EXCO discussed the significance of International Actors Day, challenges confronting actors and the guild’s plans for capacity building and members’ welfare in Lagos State.
The guild also reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, unity and advocacy for its members, while urging media organisations to deepen their partnership with the acting community.
According to the guild, such partnerships would help promote positive storytelling, develop emerging talents and strengthen the visibility of Nigerian content.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria is the umbrella body for professional actors in Nigeria, while its Lagos State Chapter focuses on the welfare, training and professional advancement of actors in Lagos, as well as the promotion of the Nigerian film and theatre industry globally.
