Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 13 Police Headquarters, Ukpo, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra, AIG Miller Gajere Dantawaye, has directed the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Nnanna Ama, to ensure that personnel deployed for Saturday’s local government elections maintain the highest level of professionalism, neutrality and impartiality.

The Anambra LG polls are scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 29, 2026.

Dantawaye gave the directive in a statement issued on Friday by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), ASP Chidera Oha, in Awka, the state capital.

The AIG warned police personnel against openly or secretly identifying with, supporting or assisting any political party, candidate or interest group before, during or after the Anambra LG polls.

He stressed that all officers deployed for the exercise must remain strictly apolitical and discharge their duties in accordance with the law, professional ethics and directives of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, adequate security must be provided for all stakeholders, while voters must be allowed to exercise their civic rights in a peaceful and orderly environment without intimidation, harassment or discrimination.

Dantawaye said the credibility of the police during the electoral process depended largely on the professionalism, discipline and impartiality of individual officers.

He urged personnel to remain vigilant, respect the rights of citizens and avoid any action capable of compromising the integrity of the electoral process.

The AIG also directed officers to promptly report security threats or attempts to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the elections through the appropriate channels.

He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to providing a safe and secure environment for the conduct of the local government elections in the State.

“All personnel are therefore enjoined to uphold the law, maintain neutrality, and remain professional throughout the electoral process,” he added.
