The Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has pledged to preserve and document the works of veteran Hausa actor, Mohammed Sani, popularly known as Tumbuleke, following his death.

Musawa made the commitment on Thursday when she visited the actor’s family at his residence on Adamawa road, Kaduna, to condole with them over his death.

Tumbuleke, who died on August 11, 2026, at the age of 86 after an illness, was a prominent figure in Hausa comedy and television entertainment, particularly through Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) productions in the 1980s.

Speaking with journalists after the visit, Musawa described his death as a great loss to Nigeria’s creative industry, acknowledging his decades-long contribution to the development of Hausa-language entertainment.

She said the Federal Government would explore ways of documenting his works and preserving his artistic contributions for future generations.

“We are here to share in the grief of the family and condole with them, as well as see how we can preserve his legacies and document them for the future,” the minister said.

Musawa explained that the visit was primarily to identify with the bereaved family and share in their grief, while also exploring ways of preserving the actor’s artistic heritage.

She said although she intended to have a comprehensive discussion with the family on documenting Tumbuleke’s works, time constraints prevented her from concluding the conversation.

“I had to sit with the family to discuss how we can document his legacies. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do that today. However, I will meet with the family to ensure that his enduring legacies are preserved,” she said.

The minister prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his wife, children and other members of the family the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.

Tumbuleke’s career spanned several decades, with his performances contributing to the growth of Hausa comedy and indigenous television entertainment.
