The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of cloudy skies, morning showers, and widespread afternoon and evening thunderstorms across the northern, central, and southern states from Friday to Saturday.
In its weather outlook released in Abuja, on Friday, the agency forecast cloud patches and isolated thunderstorms over areas like Sokoto, Kebbi, and Kaduna, expanding into the afternoon and evening.
According to the agency, there’ll be a cloudy morning with rains in the FCT and neighboring areas, followed by isolated thunderstorms later in the day.
“Morning light rains across parts of the South-east and coast will transition into widespread moderate rainfall by the afternoon and evening,” it stated.
On Saturday, NiMet forecasts cloudy intervals which will give way to widespread late afternoon thunderstorms and moderate to heavy downpours.
The agency said overcast skies and light morning showers will develop into moderate evening thunderstorms in Abuja, Plateau, and surrounding areas.
It added that morning rains in coastal zones would escalate to heavy showers later, elevating flash flood risks.
It advised travellers to expect temporary flooding in low-lying areas, slippery roads, and reduced visibility.
“The public is also advised to seek shelter during storms,” it stated.
The weather agency further advised airline operators to request updated airport briefings for safe planning.
