Troops Recover, Safely Dispose Of Terrorists’ IED Along Zamfara Road

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recovered and safely disposed of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by suspected terrorists along a major access route in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The operation was carried out on Thursday, August 27, 2026, following credible intelligence received by troops of Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the troops responded swiftly to reports of an IED planted along the Gurusu-Gwashi Road.

The troops located the explosive device and immediately secured the area to prevent possible harm to motorists, residents and other road users.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was subsequently deployed and successfully carried out the safe disposal of the IED.

Following the operation, the troops intensified aggressive patrols across the general area in a bid to deny terrorist elements freedom of movement and prevent further attacks.

The Joint Task Force said the successful operation underscored the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protecting lives, securing critical routes and countering the evolving tactics of terrorist groups operating across its Joint Operations Area.

The military urged residents and other members of the public to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious objects, movements or activities to security agencies.

It stressed that timely and credible information from members of the public remains crucial to preventing attacks and enhancing security across communities.
