On Saturday, the Nigerian Army High Command raised the alarm over an attempted unauthorised access to its official X.

Saturday Telegraph gathered that the incident, which occurred at about 5:00 pm on Saturday, August 29, 2026, was being treated as a cybersecurity breach.

In a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Army said immediate technical and protective measures had been activated to secure the account, prevent further unauthorised access and safeguard the integrity of information disseminated through the platform.

This is as the Army advised the public, media organisations and other stakeholders to disregard any suspicious, unauthorised, misleading or unverified content published through the affected account pending the resolution of the incident.

According to the statement, such content should not be regarded as representing the official position of the Nigerian Army.

The Army also urged the public and the media to verify information through its other official communication platforms while efforts to secure the X account continued.
