The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has visited Niger State to assess the security situation in Borgu Local Government Area and review ongoing operations aimed at rescuing hundreds of worshippers abducted by terrorists.

The worshippers were abducted last week during Friday congregational prayers when terrorists launched coordinated attacks on five communities in the local government area.

Disu said his visit was aimed at assessing the operational realities on the ground and identifying additional measures required to ensure the safe rescue of the victims within the shortest possible time.

The IGP disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force had deployed tactical and counter-terrorism teams, the Special Intervention Squad, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal personnel to support the rescue operation.

He said, “I am in Niger State to review the operations put in place to address the security situation, assess the operational realities confronting the officers, and identify practical ways the Force Headquarters could provide further assistance.”

Receiving the IGP in audience, the state Governor, Umaru Bago, expressed appreciation for the visit and the prompt steps taken by the police and other security agencies towards rescuing the abducted worshippers.

Disu also reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to rescuing all the victims, assuring their families that concerted efforts were being made to bring their loved ones back safely.

The IGP assured the families that the police would continue to work tirelessly until all the abducted victims were rescued from the terrorists.

Bago, who was represented by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, also commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as his timely and fatherly intervention through his directive to the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intensify efforts towards rescuing the victims.
