Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, secured a 1-0 victory over Poland in a friendly on Friday as they stepped up preparations for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
Mary Mamudu scored the decisive goal in first-half stoppage time at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg, Poland, giving coach Moses Aduku’s side a morale-boosting win ahead of their opening World Cup fixture.
The victory provides the two-time U20 Women’s World Cup runners-up with valuable momentum as they prepare to face Spain in their Group F opener on September 7.
Mamudu strikes before half-time
The Falconets produced a disciplined display against the hosts before Mamudu broke the deadlock in added time at the end of the first half.
The goal proved enough to secure victory and give Nigeria a positive result in their penultimate preparation match.
The Falconets will have one more opportunity to fine-tune their preparations when they face the Republic of Korea on Tuesday, September 1, at the Remes Sports Leisure and Spa Stadium.
Spain test awaits in World Cup opener
Nigeria will then turn their attention to the World Cup, where they have been drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia.
The Falconets will face Spain on September 7 before taking on China on September 10.
They will conclude their group-stage campaign against New Caledonia on September 13.
