Liverpool were forced to settle for another 2-2 draw in the Premier League after twice coming from behind to deny Nottingham Forest victory at Anfield on Saturday.

The result means new manager Andoni Iraola is still waiting for his first league victory after his side opened the campaign with consecutive draws.

Forest stunned the home crowd in the 24th minute when Dan Ndoye controlled Morgan Gibbs-White’s pass inside the box, cut inside his marker and fired a low finish into the bottom corner.

Liverpool thought they had responded eight minutes later when Florian Wirtz finished from inside the box after a clever pass from Jeremie Frimpong. However, the goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

The hosts continued to press and eventually found their equaliser in the 60th minute. Cody Gakpo fed Alexander Isak inside the penalty area, and the Swedish striker kept his composure to fire a low shot beyond Matz Sels.

Forest regained the advantage 10 minutes later after Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson was penalised for a foul in the box. Gibbs-White stepped up and confidently sent the resulting penalty into the left corner to make it 2-1.

Liverpool responded with increased urgency, with Isak and Dominik Szoboszlai coming close before the breakthrough arrived eight minutes from time.

Victor Muñoz, making his full Premier League debut for Liverpool, produced the decisive moment in the 82nd minute. Wirtz found the Spaniard inside the box and Muñoz unleashed a powerful effort that struck the underside of the crossbar before finding the net.

Forest were unable to withstand Liverpool’s late pressure, leaving both sides with a point from an entertaining contest.

The draw will nevertheless leave Liverpool frustrated, having twice fought back from losing positions but failed to convert their recovery into a victory. Iraola’s team now have two points from their opening two league games and remain without a win.
