Osimhen, Iheanacho, Lookman shine in club victories

Super Eagles stars Victor Osimhen, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ademola Lookman were all on target for their respective clubs on Saturday as the Nigerian forwards continued their impressive starts to the 2026/27 season.

The trio played key roles in victories for Galatasaray, Bursaspor and Atlético Madrid respectively, providing another boost for Nigeria’s attacking options ahead of upcoming international assignments.

Osimhen maintains impressive Galatasaray form

Victor Osimhen continued his excellent goalscoring run for Galatasaray as the Turkish champions defeated Göztepe 3-2 in a thrilling Turkish Super Lig encounter.

Göztepe stunned the home side by taking the lead in the 16th minute through Miroshi, putting Galatasaray under early pressure.

The champions responded through Davinson Sánchez, who restored parity and gave Galatasaray the platform to take control of the contest.

Osimhen then turned provider as he set up Gabriel Sara to put Galatasaray ahead. The Nigerian striker was subsequently presented with the opportunity to add his name to the scoresheet when Galatasaray were awarded a penalty.

He stepped up confidently and converted from the spot in the 63rd minute to give his side a 3-1 advantage.

The goal took Osimhen’s season tally to five, further underlining his importance to Galatasaray’s attack.

Göztepe reduced the deficit late in the match, setting up a tense finish, but Galatasaray held on to secure the three points.

The victory also moved the defending champions to the top of the Turkish Super Lig table after three matches.

Lookman opens Atlético Madrid account

In Spain, Ademola Lookman opened his goalscoring account for Atlético Madrid with a goal in their 3-1 victory over Sevilla.

Lookman found the net in the 33rd minute after Álex Baena had earlier given Atlético Madrid the lead.

The Nigerian forward’s goal strengthened Atlético’s control of the match and provided him with an early landmark following his move to the Spanish club.

The 3-1 victory gave Atlético Madrid another positive result as they continue their campaign in the Spanish top flight.

Lookman will now hope to build on the performance and establish himself as an important attacking option for the club as the season progresses.

Iheanacho maintains scoring streak

Kelechi Iheanacho was also among the Nigerian forwards who made headlines, scoring and providing an assist for Bursaspor in their victory over Kayserispor in Turkey’s second division.

The performance means Iheanacho has now been directly involved in six goals in four appearances for the club this season.

The Nigerian forward has also maintained an impressive scoring streak, having found the net in every match he has featured in this term.

Iheanacho previously scored against Karagümrük and Igdir FK and also provided an assist during Bursaspor’s victory over Bodrum FK.

His recent form represents a significant improvement in his attacking output and could provide a timely boost to Nigeria’s forward options.

Strong start for Nigerian attackers

The performances of Osimhen, Lookman and Iheanacho come as a welcome development for the Super Eagles, with the three forwards producing goals and assists for their clubs at the beginning of the new campaign.

Osimhen has established himself as one of Galatasaray’s leading attacking figures, while Lookman is beginning to make his mark in Spain.

Iheanacho, meanwhile, is enjoying a prolific spell in Turkey and has quickly become one of Bursaspor’s key attacking players.

With the European season still in its early stages, the continued form of the Nigerian trio will be closely monitored by fans and the national team as they look ahead to future international fixtures.
