Families, caregivers, and children gathered to commemorate World Autism Awareness Day as the Wife of the Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, called for greater understanding, acceptance, and support for individuals living on the autism spectrum.
Speaking at an event organised by the You Matter Charity Foundation, the First Lady emphasised that autism should not be misunderstood or stigmatized, stressing that it is neither a spiritual attack nor a limitation but simply a different way of experiencing the world.
She encouraged parents and guardians to embrace their children and provide them with the care and support they need to thrive.
“Autism is not a spiritual attack or a limitation. It is simply a different way of experiencing the world. Every child carries value, strength, and purpose,” she said, urging families not to hide children with autism but to nurture their potential through love, early intervention, and inclusion.
The foundation also highlighted its ongoing outreach initiatives across Delta State’s three senatorial districts, which include school visits, medical outreaches, and learning support programmes aimed at assisting children on the autism spectrum and their families.
Reaffirming her commitment to advocacy, Oborevwori pledged to continue lending her voice to the cause, calling on communities, institutions, and stakeholders to work together in building a society where children with autism are supported and given equal opportunities to succeed.
