The Delta State Government has successfully evacuated students of Delta origin studying at the University of Jos following the recent security crisis in Plateau State, reaffirming its commitment to the safety and welfare of students.

The evacuation exercise was approved by Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, as part of swift measures to protect Deltan students affected by the unrest and the subsequent closure of the university.

Speaking while receiving the evacuated students, the State Director of Protocol, Chief Sunday Onoriode, commended the prompt intervention of the state government. He noted that the decision to evacuate the students became necessary following the closure of the institution due to the security situation in the state.

Onoriode explained that the move was aimed at ensuring the immediate safety of the students, adding that the government acted quickly to prevent them from being exposed to potential danger.

He also praised the coordination efforts of the Executive Assistant on Students Affairs, Comrade Ezekiel Okoh, who played a key role in facilitating the safe return of the students to Delta State.

Reassuring the students of the government’s continued support, Onoriode expressed confidence that they would return to the University of Jos to complete their academic programmes once normalcy is restored in Plateau State.

He emphasised that while the crisis may have temporarily disrupted their studies, it would not derail their future, noting that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori remains committed to protecting Deltans and advancing opportunities for young people under the MORE Agenda.

The evacuated students expressed gratitude to the Delta State Government for the timely intervention, describing the evacuation as a reassuring demonstration that their safety and welfare remain a priority.
