Investors in the Nigerian equities market gained another N88 billion at the close of trading on Tuesday.

This followed a surge in the share prices of stocks such as NASCON, Union Dicon and Wapco, among others on the trading floor.

The benchmark All-Share Index (ASI) increased to 218,249.81 points from the 218,113.84 points recorded on the previous trading day.

After five hours of trading on the capital market, equity capitalisation increased to N140.5 trillion from N140.4 trillion posted by the bourse on Monday.

The market breadth was negative, with 25 stocks advancing, 44 declining, and 79 remaining unchanged in 61,617 deals.

A total of 842,476,142 shares were traded, valued at N44.8 billion.

NASCON, Union Dicon and Wapco led the gainers’ chart, with 10%, 9.92%, and 9.64% growth in share prices, respectively, to close at N171.60, N19.95, and N273.00 per share, up from N156.00, N18.15, and N249.00 per share.

Legend Internet, Abbey Mortgage Bank and Stanbic led other price decliners, with 9.92%, 9.59%, and 8.96% declines, respectively, to close at N5.63, N6.60, and N154.50 per share, down from N6.25, N7.30, and N169.70 per share, respectively.

On the volume index, Access Holding led trading with 110 million shares in 5,423 deals, followed by FCMB, which traded 57 million shares in 1,231 deals.

Fidelity Bank traded 44 million shares in 1, 788 deals.

On the value index, MTNN traded stocks valued at N6.5 billion in 3, 895 deals, followed by Zenith Bank, which traded equities worth N5.5 billion in 4,572 deals.

GTCO traded shares valued at N3.8 billion in 2,572 deals.
