The Delta State Police Command has explained why the faces of four officers arrested in connection with the killing of 28-year-old Oghenemine Ogidi were concealed from the public.

The Command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, gave the clarification while speaking on Channels Television, stating that the decision was taken because the case is sensitive and the officers are still officially members of the Nigeria Police Force pending their dismissal and prosecution.

According to Edafe, the officer responsible for the fatal shooting during the Effurun incident will be charged with murder.

He disclosed that the incident occurred on April 26, 2026, after police officers intercepted the victim over a parcel suspected to contain a Beretta pistol and ammunition.

Edafe explained that although the suspect had already been restrained and was reportedly begging for his life, the officer still opened fire on him, an action the police command described as a clear violation of established police procedures.

“This situation is very painful and difficult to explain. There is absolutely no excuse for what happened,” Edafe said during the interview.

The police spokesperson noted that investigations are ongoing, adding that the command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served in the case.

He also reminded transport and logistics companies of earlier warnings by the police to thoroughly check parcels before delivery, stressing that criminal elements sometimes use delivery services to transport weapons and other illegal items.

The Delta State Police Command assured the public that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face the full weight of the law.
