Jonathan Scott, 33, of Oak Park has been sentenced to 32 months in federal prison after displaying a handgun during an argument with a McDonald’s employee on Chicago’s West Side on May 25, 2025, while on bond for a separate violent crime case. Scott has eleven prior felony convictions between the ages of 19 and 32.

A man with eleven prior felony convictions who displayed a handgun outside a Chicago West Side McDonald’s while out on bond for a violent crime has been sentenced to more than two and a half years in federal prison.

Jonathan Scott, 33, of Oak Park was arrested on May 25, 2025 after displaying a handgun during an argument with a McDonald’s employee on the West Side of Chicago.

Chicago Police responded and found the handgun in Scott’s vehicle parked outside the restaurant.

Scott had previously been convicted of multiple felony offenses and was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.

At the time of his arrest Scott was on pretrial release for a separate violent crime case pending in state court.

In that case Scott forced his way into his ex-girlfriend’s car in March 2025 and took her cell phone causing her injury.

He was later convicted of unlawful vehicular invasion and sentenced to four years in state prison.

Eleven Prior Felony Convictions

Federal prosecutors highlighted Scott’s extensive criminal history at sentencing.

“The defendant has, between the ages of 19 and 32, racked up eleven felony convictions, including convictions for aggravated battery, violating orders of protection, escaping a penal institution, unlawful vehicular invasion, and aggravated assault and use of a deadly weapon,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Stern argued. “It is critical that the defendant’s increasingly escalating criminal conduct be halted.”

Chicago Crime Chaser confirmed through CPD public arrest records that Scott was arrested on May 25, 2025 on a charge of felon in possession of a weapon matching the date and charge in the federal case. Records also show a March 2025 warrant arrest and a June 2022 cannabis manufacturing and delivery arrest.

The Federal Sentence

Scott pleaded guilty in the federal case in March 2026 to a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

On July 24, 2026 U.S. District Judge Sara L. Ellis sentenced Scott to 32 months in federal prison within the advisory U.S. Sentencing Guidelines range.

The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Andrew Boutros and ATF Special Agent-in-Charge Christopher Amon.

The federal investigation was conducted in coordination with ATF’s Crime Gun Intelligence Center of Chicago which processes every firearm related case in Chicago on a daily basis.
