Not fewer than 8,000 bags of fertilizers allocated to the Taraba state government through the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu fertilizer input support program are missing from the handlers.
President Tinubu had few weeks ago announced the procurement of 449,000 metric tones of fertilizer inputs to boost food security across Nigeria out of which 20,000 bags of the fertilizer was allocated and conveyed to Taraba state in the early days of July 2026.
The President tagged the distribution as “President Tinubu fertilizer input support program”.
Out the 20,000 bags of the fertilizer which comprises of organic NPK and Urea 12,000 bags were allocated to All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Taraba state chapter while 8,000 bags were given to the state ministry of Agriculture.
Our correspondent reliably gathered that 12,000 bags of the fertilizer were allocated to AFAN to distribute to its members while exactly 8,000 bags of the fertilizer were given to the ministry of agriculture and food security for onward distribution to cooperatives and organised farmers across the state.
The director of the federal ministry of Agriculture Taraba state Luka Dabut When contacted had confirm receipt of the 8,000 bags of the fertilizer from the federal government to handover to the Taraba state government.
Luka said “The federal ministry of agriculture have received a total number of 8,000 bags of fertilizer comprises of NPK and Urea from the federal government for Taraba state government, the commodity was brought during my predecessor who I have taken over from few weeks ago.
“On my arrival, I met the fertilizer in our store, the fertilizer was there under our custody for only safe keeping, within a short time, the federal government engaged a consultant to process the sharing of the fertilizer, I engaged the Taraba state ministry of agriculture and food security.
“The parmenent secretary of the ministry (Agriculture and food security) and some the Directors, the DSS other security agencies were involved in all the meetings, we successfully handed over the 8,000 bags of the fertilizer to the Taraba state ministry of agriculture and food security in the presence of all the security agencies.
“No single bag of the fertilizer was left in our store,” he stated.
Our correspondent investigation disclosed that AFAN and it’s members were visibly seen distributing the 12,000 bags of the fertilizer at Veterinary Warehouse, located opposite Christian Center, along FGGC Road in Jalingo, Taraba state capital.
The Taraba state commissioner for agriculture and food security Prof. Nicholas Namissan when contacted about the whereabout of the 8,000 bags of the President Tinubu fertilizer input support program said the product was given to the federal ministry of agriculture for distribution.
“There’s a Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Taraba State.
They handled the distribution by themselves”. The commissioner replied our correspondent via text message.
Meanwhile, the farmers design to benefit from the president’s kind gesture to boost food security in the state are worried on the whereabout of the 8,000 bags of the fertilizer, most of the farmers who spoke to our correspondent call on the security agencies, the office of the President and the governor of Taraba state Agbu Kefas to wed into the matter and unravel the source of the missing products.
