Fresh scrutiny has greeted the 2026 budget after findings showed that dozens of Federal Government agencies allocated nearly N400bn to the construction and rehabilitation of mosques, traditional rulers’ palaces, community halls and other constituency-related projects.

Findings by The PUNCH show that about 78 Ministries, Departments and Agencies allocated nearly N400bn in the 2026 budget for projects including mosques, traditional rulers’ palaces, community halls, village market squares and civic centres.

2. DSS arraigns five over Oyo school abduction
The Department of State Services has arraigned five suspected members of the Ansaru terrorist group before the Federal High Court in Abuja over the May 15 abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State and the alleged killing of two victims.

3. Father-in-law in police net over Lagos widow’s harassment
Police have arrested a man accused of threatening, intimidating and attempting to dispossess his widowed daughter-in-law of her late husband’s property in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency said it intervened after the case gained attention on social media.
