Jaylin Jones, 23, has been charged with attempted murder after being identified as the person who shot and seriously injured a 39-year-old woman multiple times during a street party in the 600 block of West Belden Avenue in Lincoln Park on June 7. The woman transported herself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Jones was arrested July 28 and faces a detention hearing July 31 at Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

A Chicago man has been charged with attempted murder nearly two months after he allegedly shot a woman multiple times during a predawn street party in Lincoln Park leaving her to drive herself to the hospital in critical condition.

At approximately 4 a.m. on June 7 a 39-year-old woman was shot multiple times in the 600 block of West Belden Avenue in Lincoln Park near the six-way intersection with Lincoln Avenue and Orchard Street during a street party with music blasting from cars according to Chicago Police and published reports.

The woman heard shots, felt pain, and realized she had been shot. She transported herself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. A trail of dried blood was later found along the front and side of a nearby coffee shop.

43rd Ward Alderman Timmy Knudsen confirmed the shooting.

Nearly two months later on July 28 Chicago Police arrested Jaylin Jones, 23, of the 6500 block of South Mozart Street in the 700 block of West 63rd Street and identified him as the offender who shot the woman according to CPD.

The Charges

Jones faces two felony counts in connection with the June 7 shooting. One count of Attempted First Degree Murder and one count of Aggravated Battery by Discharge of a Firearm.

A detention hearing for Jones is scheduled for July 31, 2026, at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse at 2600 South California Avenue.

The 600 block of West Belden Avenue sits in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood within the 18th District on the North Side.
