The Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, Danjuma Shekwolo, has explained the reason behind his appointment of Ibrahim Danladi as Special Assistant on Dance.

Shekwolo, who confirmed the appointment on Friday, said the decision was part of efforts to strengthen the entertainment sector in the council.

He, however, clarified that the role had been misunderstood.

A letter of appointment dated July 13 and signed by the council chairman stated that Danladi’s appointment took immediate effect.

The letter, referenced KAC/CHM/30/VOL.1, said the appointment was based on Danladi’s “selflessness, hard work, dedication, and contribution to the development of Kuje Area Council.”

It urged the appointee to justify the confidence placed in him by ensuring he carried out the responsibilities of the office diligently.

“With pleasure, I wish to inform you that you have been appointed as Special Assistant (Dance) with immediate effect,” the letter read.

However, Shekwolo said reports describing the appointment as solely for dance did not fully capture the role.

“Yes, I made an appointment. But it is the wrong perception that they gave. It is an appointment for a special assistant on entertainment not dance,” he told TheCable on Friday.

The appointment has drawn attention due to the unusual nature of the portfolio, with the council chairman insisting that it was aimed at supporting entertainment activities and recognising contributions within the sector.

Shekwolo, a candidate of the All Progressives Congress, won the Kuje Area Council chairmanship election in February after securing 17,269 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Zakwoyi Danlami, who polled 15,824 votes.
