President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, on Saturday called for collective responsibility and a return to enduring national values as critical ingredients for Nigeria’s sustainable development and unity.

The duo, according to a statement from the office of Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Media and Publcity, made the call at the commissioning of the new National Headquarters of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria in Surulere, Lagos.

Speaking through the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), President Tinubu said governments alone cannot deliver the Nigeria of the people’s aspirations, stressing that national development requires the active collaboration of public institutions, the private sector, faith-based organisations, civil society groups and citizens.

He urged institutions across the country to deploy their expertise, resources and influence towards strengthening education, promoting good governance, fostering national unity and driving socio-economic development.

The President commended the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society and the Okunnu family for their enduring contributions to nation-building, describing the organisation as a steadfast partner in Nigeria’s progress.

“Nigeria remains eternally grateful for the family’s legacy of service and to the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society for over a century of impactful contributions to education, healthcare, humanitarian interventions, moral development and community service,” he said.

Also speaking, Hamzat urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in upholding the nation’s core values, warning that no country can thrive without a strong moral foundation.

According to him, integrity, discipline, patriotism and mutual respect remain essential to building a peaceful, prosperous and resilient nation.

“One thing that we cannot lose is our values. But sadly, how do we bring it back? It’s the only thing that can sustain us,” the deputy governor said.

He noted that while physical structures would inevitably age, the ideals upon which the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society was founded must be preserved and strengthened for future generations.
Hamzat also charged religious leaders to sustain their commitment to education, insisting that no nation can attain meaningful development with an uninformed citizenry.

In his goodwill message, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Sulaimon Abou-Nolla, praised the widespread presence of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society across Lagos State, noting that its numerous educational and healthcare institutions reflect its longstanding commitment to education, moral development and community service.

Earlier, the National President of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Prince Mosediq Adeniji Kazeem (SAN), reaffirmed the Society’s commitment to partnering with the Federal Government in advancing national development.

Kazeem said the commissioning of the new National Headquarters, named after the late Alhaja Hassanat Abebi Okunnu, symbolises the Society’s renewed commitment to strengthening its institutions and expanding its impact across the country through quality education, character development and selfless service to humanity.
