Gianni Infantino could step down as FIFA president in the coming days, according to a report by UK newspaper The Times.

The report said his expected exit follows the failure of a plan to sell a stake in the FIFA World Cup to private investors.

The proposal, known as the “FIFA Forward Enterprise” scheme, faced strong opposition from several football governing bodies.

Reports also claimed that Infantino could have personally benefited from the project, increasing criticism of his leadership.

Although the 56-year-old reportedly wants to remain in office, support for him is said to be fading.

A source quoted in the report described Infantino as a “dead duck,” suggesting that many football officials believe his time as FIFA president is coming to an end. The source also claimed that possible replacements are already being considered.

The report added that the English Football Association (FA) and UEFA have lost confidence in Infantino, further increasing pressure on him as questions grow over his future as FIFA president.
