Super Falcons defender Michelle Alozie was selected for a routine drug test after Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Zambia in their second Group C match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday.

The 29 year old confirmed after the match that she took part in the mandatory anti doping test before leaving the stadium.

Alozie played the full 90 minutes and was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance. She helped Nigeria keep a clean sheet despite the team playing with 10 players for more than 50 minutes after Blessing Demehin was sent off for stopping Zambia captain Barbara Banda from having a clear scoring chance.

She started the game at right back before moving to left back as part of a tactical change. Throughout the match, Alozie made important interceptions and clearances that limited Zambia to only two shots on target.

Although she received the Player of the Match award, Alozie said the victory belonged to the entire team and not to her alone.

Speaking after the match, she said she was not sure she deserved the award because every player contributed to the important win. She praised her teammates for responding strongly after their disappointing 3-2 defeat to Malawi in their opening match.

The victory has boosted Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the quarter finals. The Super Falcons will now face Egypt in their final Group C match on August 5, with a win expected to secure qualification for the knockout stage.
