The Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District, Senator Rufai Sani Hanga, has formally dumped the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), but has yet to disclose his next move to any political party.

Senator Hanga, a Deputy Minority Whip in the Senate, announced the development in a letter dated August 3, 2026, and sent to the Nasarawa State Chairman of the Party.

He said in the letter that he was leaving the Party to be able to concentrate on some of his personal activities, which he said they are suffering right now.

Senator Rufai Sani Hanga has been speculated since a month ago to be considering the idea of getting out of the NDC for some reasons he shows as betrayal of his loyalty to the Leader of Kwankwasiyya, Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

In the same vein, some high-placed APC members, including the ex-National Chairman of the Party, Ganduje, and even Governor Yusuf, have separately met with Hanga in a bid to get him to join the APC.

Similarly, it could be recalled that the Senator had met with President Tinubu, after which he issued a Radio Program saying, “I know Tinubu will win the Presidency, but his party would fail in Kano”.
