The Oba of Shasha Kingdom in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, Oba Nasiru Babatunde Ogunronbi, has urged all residents, irrespective of tribe or religion, to obtain and safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections to enable them participate actively in choosing credible leaders.
The monarch made the appeal during a meeting with Seriki Hausa and leaders of Hausa communities across the six local council areas in Alimosho, held at his palace in Shasha.
He stressed that active participation in the electoral process remains a civic responsibility capable of strengthening democracy and promoting good governance.
Oba Ogunronbi specifically appealed to members of the Arewa community to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term and the emergence of Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat as the next Governor of Lagos State, noting that Alimosho, being the most populous local government area in the state, should demonstrate its political strength through massive voter turnout during the elections.
The traditional ruler also called on residents to embrace child immunisation exercise, warning against resistance to vaccination campaigns.
According to him, immunisation remains one of the most effective ways of protecting children against polio and other preventable diseases and urged community leaders to educate parents on the importance of vaccination, while appealing to the National Orientation Agency to intensify public enlightenment campaigns to address misinformation surrounding immunisation.
On security, Oba Ogunronbi expressed concern over the alleged involvement of some cart pushers and scavengers in criminal activities in parts of Alimosho, charged traditional leaders to strengthen community security networks, collaborate with relevant government agencies, and promote vigilance to safeguard lives and property.
Speaking after the meeting, the Sarkin Hausawa of Shasha Land, Alhaji Ilyasu Isah Kira, assured that the Hausa community would intensify grassroots sensitisation on voter registration, child immunisation, security awareness, and peaceful coexistence.
Also speaking, the General Secretary of the Arewa Community Leaders in Alimosho, Ibrahim Abubakar Jagaba, pledged that the Serikis across the six local council areas would continue to mobilise residents to support vaccination campaigns, participate in the electoral process, and work with traditional institutions and government agencies to promote peace, security, and sustainable development across their communities.
