Businessman and social commentator Isaac Fayose has challenged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to a high-stakes bet over the outcome of the next presidential election in Rivers State.
Fayose’s challenge comes a day after Wike, during a media interview, declared that Rivers State “belongs to President Bola Tinubu” and expressed confidence in the President’s political strength in the state.
Reacting in a video on Wednesday, Fayose said he was willing to stake his Rolls-Royce and an additional ₦1 billion against Wike’s Rolls-Royce and ₦1 billion, insisting that Labour Party’s Peter Obi would secure 72 per cent of the votes in Rivers State before 12 noon on election day.
According to Fayose, the bet would only stand on the condition that the election is conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) remaining neutral and without any interference from security agencies or political actors.
He argued that if the electoral process is truly independent and devoid of intimidation, vote-buying or manipulation, Rivers voters would overwhelmingly support Obi.
Fayose also alleged that Wike’s political support in the state comes mainly from politicians and individuals benefiting from his influence, maintaining that the majority of Rivers residents do not share the minister’s political position.
The businessman urged Wike to accept the wager if he was genuinely confident of his popularity and President Tinubu’s electoral prospects in Rivers State.
