The Federal Government (FG) says Nigeria is shifting from traditional diplomacy to a more proactive, technology-driven foreign policy with the creation of a dedicated Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Diplomacy Unit.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye disclosed this in Abuja while declaring open the 2nd Seminar on Anticipatory, Cyber and Digital Diplomacy.

According to the Minister, the new unit domiciled in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will coordinate Nigeria’s engagement on emerging technologies and strengthen the country’s role in global digital governance.

He stressed that Nigeria must embrace anticipatory diplomacy by moving from reactive responses to forward-looking strategies powered by data, innovation and digital tools noting that the lines between diplomacy, economy, security and technology are now blurred, making an integrated approach to foreign policy imperative.

Ambassador Enikanolaiye commended the British High Commission in Abuja for partnering the Ministry to organize the seminar, describing the collaboration as a key contribution to innovation, capacity building and international cooperation.
