Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has called for greater care, protection and social inclusion for senior citizens, stressing that supporting the elderly is a moral and legal responsibility rather than an act of charity.

Governor Otti made the call on Wednesday while delivering the keynote address at the 60th birthday symposium of Apostle Bolaji Oluwayanmife Akinyemi, Convener of The Apostolic Roundtable, President of Voice of His Word Ministries and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Project Victory Call Initiative (PVC Naija).

The event, held at the NAFOWA Hall, Children’s Park, Sam Ethnan Air Force Base, Ikeja, Lagos, also featured the unveiling of Apostle Akinyemi’s latest book, Global Leadership Code: Donald J. Trump As A Case Study, and attracted prominent personalities from across Nigeria.

Speaking on the theme, “Life at 60: Senior Citizens, Government’s Role and the Citizens’ Pact,” Otti described the celebrant as a man of courage, integrity and selfless service whose contributions to nation-building, civic responsibility and Christian ministry have left a lasting impact.

The governor said societies flourish when leaders and citizens embrace accountability, empathy and responsible leadership, adding that sustainable development can only be achieved through visionary governance and active citizen participation.

Highlighting his administration’s commitment to the welfare of older persons, Otti referenced the Abia State Senior Citizens Centre Law No. 4 of 2025, which provides a comprehensive legal framework for the care, protection and social inclusion of residents aged 60 years and above.

According to him, the law guarantees access to healthcare, welfare support, emergency assistance and protection from abuse, noting that implementation mechanisms have already been put in place.

Otti added that his administration’s investments in healthcare, education and road infrastructure are aimed at creating opportunities for younger generations while ensuring senior citizens enjoy dignity, security and quality healthcare in retirement.

Congratulating Apostle Akinyemi on his 60th birthday, the governor commended him for marking the milestone with intellectual engagement and national discourse through the launch of his new book. He urged Nigerians to embrace constructive dialogue, patriotism and collective responsibility in building a better nation.

Also speaking at the event, Pastor Goke Poka of House on the Rock Ministries underscored the importance of nation-building and loyalty, saying true loyalty should go beyond personal interests to include commitment to God, society and national development.

The celebration culminated in Governor Otti joining Apostle Akinyemi and other distinguished guests to cut the birthday cake and officially unveil the book, Global Leadership Code: Donald J. Trump As A Case Study.

The event also featured goodwill messages, prayers and tributes from family members, associates, friends and well-wishers in recognition of Apostle Akinyemi’s contributions to ministry, leadership development and nation-building.
