Audu Garba Bosso, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, has arrested and detained four Police officers for conduct which the Commissioner of Police described as being capable of putting the image of the Nigeria Police Force, especially those in his Command, in disrepute.

“What happened was that the Imo State Commissioner of Police became aware of a viral video circulating on social media, and showing four security personnel forcing a young man into the boot of a vehicle at Human Race Road, Nekede Owerri. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday August 2 , 2026, at about 9.00 am.

“In response, to the unprofessional contact, the Commissioner of Police, ordered the arrest and detention , as well as an immediate investigation to identify the personnel involved and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident”, statement issued by the State Police Command noted.

It added, “However , investigations revealed that the four personnel captured in the viral video comprised two Police officers attached to the Nekede Divisional Headquarters and two Supernumerary Police Officers, who were conducting an operation at a suspected drug trafficking location along Human Race Road, Nekede, during which two suspects were arrested.”

The statement stated that substances suspected to be cannabis sativa were said to be recovered from one suspect, who the police stated that he admitted to selling illicit drugs in the area.

But, notwithstanding the outcome of the operation, “the Imo State Police Command unequivocally condemned the unprofessional conduct of the personnel as captured in the viral video.

“The manner in which one of the suspects was arrested and forced into the boot of a vehicle is unacceptable, inhumane, and completely not in conformity with the Standard Operating Procedures, Code of Conduct, and professional ethics of the Nigeria Police Force”, the statement from Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) and made available through Imo Police/Media Platform, quoted the Commissioner of Police.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police ordered the arrest and detention of the four police officers.

“The case has been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a detailed and impartial investigation, while appropriate disciplinary procedures have commenced against the erring officers. The outcome of the investigation will be made public upon completion”, the Police statement further read.

Meanwhile the Commissioner of Police has reassured the residents in the State of the Command’s commitment to combating crime while ensuring that all policing operations are conducted professionally, lawfully, and with due respect for the rights and dignity of every individual.
