Kaduna state governor, Senator Uba Sani, has handed over houses to the families of the late Ven. Edwin Achi and the late Islamic teacher, Malama Ummulkhairi Aliyu, fulfilling promises he made following their tragic deaths.

The houses were presented to the families at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, with the governor reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting victims of insecurity across the state.

Ven. Edwin Achi, a priest of the Anglican Communion, was killed after he was abducted by kidnappers, while Malama Ummulkhairi Aliyu, an Islamic teacher, was lynched by a mob at Maraban Jos in June.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Uba Sani said supporting families affected by insecurity has remained a policy of his administration since assuming office.

He recalled that the state government last year handed over 50 houses to families affected by bandit attacks, adding that the latest gesture was a continuation of that intervention.

“As a government, we will not let the families of victims of insecurity in Kaduna State down; we will always be with them,” the governor said.

He added that beyond providing housing, the state government had committed to supporting the education and welfare of the four children of the late Ummulkhairi Aliyu.

The governor also expressed delight that Mrs. Sarah Achi had recovered after spending several months receiving medical treatment following the attack that claimed her husband’s life.

“We are continuing with this very important policy because government must stand by families that have suffered painful losses as a result of insecurity,” he said.

The gesture drew commendation from both Christian and Muslim leaders, who described Governor Uba Sani as a leader who fulfils his promises.

Archbishop of Kaduna Province and President of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Timothy Yahaya, said the governor had demonstrated that leadership is defined not only by making promises but by fulfilling them.

“It is one thing for leaders in our clime to make a promise, and it is another thing to keep that promise. But God has so blessed us with a governor that when he says something, he follows through and keeps his word,” Yahaya said.

He thanked the governor for putting smiles on the faces of the bereaved families and prayed for lasting peace in Kaduna State.

“As you have put smiles on the faces of these families, the Lord will put smiles on your government. We also pray that this type of tragedy will never happen again in Kaduna State,” he added.

Also speaking, the Northern Coordinator of the Global Peace Foundation, Sheikh Haliru Maraya, commended the governor for redeeming every pledge made to the family of the late Ummulkhairi Aliyu.

He disclosed that, in addition to providing a house, the governor had fulfilled his promise of donating N10 million to the family and directed relevant officials to enrol the deceased’s children in quality schools where their education would continue to be funded by the state government.

“The governor has shown that his words are always in tandem with his actions. We thank Almighty Allah for giving Kaduna State a compassionate governor,” Maraya said.

He added that Governor Uba Sani’s compassion and commitment to supporting vulnerable families had strengthened public confidence in his administration and prayed for greater success in his leadership.
