The Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned recent comments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing his remarks against party chieftain, Chief Olabode George, as “Baseless, reckless and ignorant.”
In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Prince Christopher Odianarewo, the party accused Wike of making unfounded allegations against the former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP and urged him to concentrate on his responsibilities as FCT Minister.
The Lagos PDP argued that Wike ignored the Supreme Court’s decision, which cleared Bode George of corruption allegations arising from his tenure as Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Board. It maintained that judicial decisions should be respected and accused the minister of selectively accepting court judgments.
The statement also faulted Wike’s comments regarding Bode George’s residence in Abuja, describing them as an abuse of office and an unwarranted intrusion into private affairs of a citizen.
According to the party, the FCT Minister has no authority over the property and should refrain from making public comments about the personal assets of individuals. It further alleged that Wike had a history of overstepping his boundaries in public office.
The Lagos PDP also rejected Wike’s assessment of politics in Lagos State, insisting that he lacked sufficient understanding of the state’s political history and the PDP’s past electoral efforts. It argued that during Bode George’s tenure as the party’s National Vice Chairman (South), the PDP recorded significant electoral successes in several states.
The party further claimed that Wike had built a reputation for political disagreements with several former allies, alleging that he had fallen out with key political figures who contributed to his rise.
Concluding the statement, the Lagos PDP urged the FCT minister to desist from attacking Bode George, whom it described as a respected elder statesman, and instead focus on governance in the Federal Capital Territory.
The statement reflects the latest exchange in the ongoing political disagreements within the PDP involving Wike and some senior members of the party.
