The Sokoto state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Ahmad Ladan Ala, has been selected to receive the Award of Excellence as the Best Commissioner for Education in the North-west geopolitical zone.

The prestigious recognition followed recommendations made by the National Award Committee in acknowledgement of Prof. Ala’s exemplary leadership, dedication, and outstanding contributions to the advancement of education in Sokoto state and the North-west zone.

The organisers said  the award will be presented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, during the grand finale of the 2026 Democracy Day Anniversary President Inter Senior Secondary School Debate Championship, scheduled to hold on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Rivers State Ministry of Education, Port Harcourt.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers state will serve as the chief host of the event.

The notification conveying the award was signed by Hon. Muhammad Usman, Chairman of the National Advisory Board, President School Debate Nigeria (PSDN).
