The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Ideological Group (BAT-IG) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to institutionalise a Monthly Policy Focus and Quarterly Leadership Empowerment Summit as part of efforts to strengthen policy coordination, improve governance and accelerate grassroots development across Nigeria.

The group’s Convener, Comrade Bamidele Atoyebi, said the proposed framework would bring together political appointees, state governors and local government chairmen under a unified governance agenda aimed at ensuring that increased public resources translate into visible development across the country.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Atoyebi argued that while the Tinubu administration had introduced bold economic reforms and significantly increased financial allocations to states and local governments, the country’s major challenge now lies in ensuring that all levels of government pursue clearly defined priorities with a shared vision.

He noted that since assuming office, President Tinubu has faced major national challenges, including insecurity, economic adjustments following the removal of fuel subsidy and exchange rate reforms, infrastructure deficits and power sector issues.

According to him, despite these challenges, the administration has continued to invest in critical infrastructure and social intervention programmes, citing projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Shagamu-Ijebu Ore-Benin and Ife-Ibadan road corridors, the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, rail and gas infrastructure, implementation of a new national minimum wage, improved welfare for security personnel, the student loan initiative and the uninterrupted academic calendar in public universities.

Atoyebi, however, observed that many Nigerians remain unconvinced about the impact of the administration because increased allocations to sub-national governments have not resulted in coordinated and visible development in many communities.

To address the gap, he proposed that the Presidency introduce a Monthly Policy Focus that would assign a single national development priority to all tiers of government.

He explained that such priorities could include rural road construction, primary healthcare revitalisation, agricultural productivity, youth empowerment, market development or support for small businesses, enabling governments across the federation to concentrate resources on measurable outcomes within specified periods while encouraging peer review among states and local governments.

The BAT-IG convener also advocated a Quarterly Leadership Empowerment Summit involving the President, governors, ministers, local government chairmen and other key political appointees to assess progress, exchange best practices and strengthen policy implementation.

According to him, the proposed model reflects leadership systems adopted by successful institutions around the world, where regular engagement, shared objectives and continuous performance evaluation help maintain effective governance.

Atoyebi recalled that President Tinubu adopted a similar leadership style during his tenure as Governor of Lagos State through regular engagements with cabinet members and local government officials, which he said contributed significantly to policy implementation and institutional reforms.

He maintained that institutionalising such meetings at the national level would enhance accountability, improve policy alignment, reduce duplication of projects and ensure that increased public spending delivers tangible benefits to citizens.

The group expressed confidence that a structured system of monthly policy direction and quarterly leadership empowerment would strengthen collaboration across the three tiers of government and accelerate the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
