Davido has called on Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo state, to “refrain from interfering” in the upcoming Osun governorship election, urging him to support a peaceful and credible electoral process.

 

Uzodimma chairs the All Progressives Congress (APC) national campaign council for the August 15 Osun election.

 

The singer, whose full name is David Adeleke, spoke on Wednesday during a press conference in Osogbo, where he addressed security concerns and other issues surrounding the governorship election.

 

Davido, who declared his support for incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, also addressed Uzodimma, saying he had heard reports suggesting attempts to influence the Osun election or use the state to settle political interests.

 

 

While acknowledging that he could not verify the claims, he appealed to the Imo governor to use his influence to promote peace and allow Osun people to decide their future freely through the ballot.

 

“To our Daddy from Imo state. I have heard rumours suggesting that there are plans to interfere in the Osun state election or use the state has a political battle ground to prove a point,” he said.

 

“I do not present this claims as facts, but I appeal to you to use your influence to promote peace and allow the people of Osun to choose their candidate freely.”

 

 

He noted that his appeal was made with sincerity, pointing to his personal ties with Imo through his wife Chioma Adeleke.

 

“We have mutual connection with Imo state. My wife Chioma, is from the state which makes this appeal more sincere…allow democracy take its place and let the people decide,” he said.

 

“Whatever the outcome is, please do not allow political ambition to put the life of Osun people at risk.”

 

The hitmaker, who is Adeleke’s nephew and head of the Imole youth campaign mobilisation team, urged eligible voters to participate in the election without fear and exercise their civic responsibility, stressing that every vote should count and that the choice of the electorate must be respected.

 

 

Davido said the group considered it necessary to reassure young voters and encourage their peaceful participation in the election.

 

He urged residents to remain calm despite the heightened political atmosphere, expressing confidence that Adeleke would secure another victory at the polls.

 

Davido also advised political supporters to reject violence, intimidation, provocation, and the destruction of lives and property throughout the election period.

 

Adeleke is seeking a second term on the platform of the Accord Party.

 

Davido has actively supported his uncle’s campaign. In June, the singer vowed to resist any attempt to manipulate the election.

 

More recently, he accused former governor Gboyega Oyetola of political desperation and plotting to cause unrest in the state.
