The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the posting of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Auwal Musa Mohammed as the new Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), Wudil, Kano State, alongside the deployment of eight Commissioners of Police (CPs) to various state commands across the country.

The commission said the postings were part of ongoing efforts to strengthen police leadership, sustain operational efficiency and address emerging security challenges in the affected commands. Blueprint reports

The development was contained in a statement issued by the Head of Protocol and Public Relations of the commission, Mr. Torty Njoku Kalu.

AIG Auwal takes over at Police Academy

According to the PSC, AIG Auwal Musa Mohammed brings more than 33 years of policing experience to his new assignment at the Nigeria Police Academy.

The senior police officer has served in several strategic operational, investigative, intelligence and training positions during his career.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Bayero University, Kano.

His previous appointments include Commandant of the Police College, Maiduguri, Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State and Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 3 and Zone 6.

He is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

The commission expressed confidence that his vast operational and administrative experience would further strengthen training, discipline and leadership development at the Nigeria Police Academy.

Eight commissioners deployed

The PSC also approved the deployment of eight Commissioners of Police to different state commands following the promotion of their predecessors and the need to fill existing vacancies.

The affected officers are CP Afolabi Wilfred Olutokunbo, formerly Commissioner of Police, Administration, Training and Development, who has been posted to Abia State Command.

CP Ayodeji Faniyan, formerly Commissioner of Police, Administration, Police Cooperative, Lagos, has been deployed to Plateau State Command.

CP Saka Adewale Ajao, formerly Commissioner of Police, Administration, Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Gombe, has been posted to Bayelsa State Command.

CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, formerly Commissioner of Police in charge of INTERPOL, Abuja, has been assigned to Cross River State Command.

CP Nnanna Oji Ama, formerly Commissioner of Police, Intelligence, has been deployed to Anambra State Command.

CP Patrick Daaor, formerly Commissioner of Police, Administration, Force Intelligence Department, Abuja, has been posted to Edo State Command.

The commission also approved the deployment of CP Tijani Murtala to Jigawa State Command and CP Samuel Erale Etaifo to Delta State Command.

According to the PSC, the postings were necessitated by recent promotions involving former Commissioners of Police and are intended to ensure continuity in leadership and operational effectiveness across the affected commands.

PSC tasks officers on professionalism

Speaking during the commission’s meeting, the member of the PSC Board and Honourable Commissioner I, retired Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, who presided over the session, urged the newly deployed officers to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, integrity and impartiality.

He charged the officers to remain committed to the rule of law and avoid actions capable of undermining public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

Galumje stressed that neutrality remains one of the fundamental principles expected of police officers, particularly in the discharge of constitutional responsibilities.

He reminded the officers that effective policing requires fairness, accountability and unwavering commitment to justice regardless of the individuals or interests involved.

The retired Supreme Court Justice further urged the commissioners to demonstrate diligence in addressing security challenges within their respective commands while strengthening collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders.

Commitment to effective policing

The PSC said the appointments reflect its commitment to strengthening leadership within the Nigeria Police Force through the deployment of experienced officers to strategic positions.

The commission expressed optimism that the newly posted officers would bring their wealth of experience to bear in tackling insecurity, improving operational efficiency and enhancing public confidence in policing.

Other members of the commission who attended the meeting included Alhaji Abdulfatah Mohammed, retired Justice Christine Ladi Dabup and the Secretary to the Commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.

The latest postings form part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to reposition the Nigeria Police Force for improved service delivery, professionalism and effective response to contemporary security challenges across the country.
