She urged women to choose themselves adding that they can live happy and meaningful lives without a husband or children.

Nollywood actress Tayo Adeniyi has slammed the societal pressure placed on unmarried women, stating that women’s worth are not defined by marriage and motherhood.

The actress, while speaking in a video, encouraged women to de-centre marriage and pursue fulfilment beyond societal expectations. Adeniyi also noted that women could live fulfilled lives whether or not they were married or had children.

“Please, de-centre marriage. You do not have to get married, and you do not have to have kids also. If you’re in your 40s and you’ve tried your best to find a man to be married or perhaps you’re married and you haven’t got any kids, please, I beg you, you can be whole without these things. You can be a whole you without having kids, without having a man in your life. Just get your life together,” she stated.

Adeniyi also addressed the issue of staying in abusive and unhealthy relationships in a bid to conform to societal standards. She urged women to choose themselves adding that they can live happy and meaningful lives without a husband or children.

The actress however clarified that her message on decentering marriage does not mean they should reject it. She clarified that she just wants women to learn to find their purpose and passion without it being attached to a man.

“You can be happy without children. You can be happy without a husband. Life has changed. Seasons have changed. If it does not come naturally, let it go. Trust me, if it’s going to happen, it will happen, and if it is not happening, there’s absolutely nothing you can do to make it happen,” she added.
