THE wife of Delta Governor, Tobore Oborevwori, on Friday extended access to medical care to hundreds of families caring for children with autism through her charity foundation, “You Matter Charity Foundation’ (YMCF)”.
Oborevwori gave the donations at the foundation’s second free medical outreach in Kiagbodo, Burutu Federal Constituency, on Friday.
She pledge to sustain her advocacy for greater inclusion of special children in the society.
She described the outreach as a holistic intervention extending beyond healthcare to increasing autism awareness, promoting acceptance and restoring confidence among affected families
Oborevwori urged Nigerians to embrace an inclusive society where children with special needs are valued, supported and given equal opportunities to develop their abilities.
According to her, Burutu Federal Constituency became the fifth beneficiary of the initiative, which has provided healthcare services, medications, specialist attention and assistive support to more than 520 beneficiaries.
She called for stronger partnerships with government ministries, healthcare professionals, development organisations, corporate bodies and individuals.
She said this would help to expand access to care for children with autism and other special needs.
Oborevwori appreciated the support of the Burutu Local Government chairman, traditional rulers, community leaders, volunteers and the State Ministry of Health towards the success of the outreach.
She encouraged parents and caregivers to embrace early intervention, medical care and quality education, stressing that timely support could significantly improve children’s lives and development.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme, commended the foundation for complementing government efforts to improve healthcare delivery through humanitarian interventions.
The Director-General of the foundation, Mrs Lawrentta Ogbedo, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to sustaining support for children living with autism and other special needs across Delta State.
Chairman, Burutu LG Council, Chief Julius Takeme, and the Commissioner for Housing, Mr Godknows Angele, praised Oborevwori’s humanitarian efforts and commitment to vulnerable groups.
They pledged the continued support of the people of Burutu Federal Constituency towards achieving the objectives of the charity initiative.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the outreach featured health talks, medical consultations, screenings, counselling, treatment and free distribution of prescribed medications.
The highlight of the event was Oborevwori’s donation of N5 million to support a 20-year-old girl requiring urgent hip replacement surgery.
Wheelchairs, educational assistive devices, food items and other essential materials were also distributed to families benefiting from the intervention.
Beneficiaries and caregivers expressed appreciation to Oborevwori, describing the programme as timely, life-changing and a reminder that vulnerable families deserve support. (NAN)
